Mosque es-selam

Building a mosque and community center embodies the essence of the Quranic verse, “The mosques of Allah shall be visited and maintained by such as believe in Allah and the Last Day” (9:18). It’s a humble yet profound act of faith, bringing together believers to worship, learn, and support one another. This center will stand as a place of unity and peace, where the community can grow in spirituality and fellowship, fulfilling a vital role in the lives of current and future generations. Help us create a welcoming space that serves as a foundation for a stronger, compassionate community.

2016

The majority of 2016 was spent on designing Es-Selam Mosque, the community center and the youth football stadium. Before we signed a contract with Neumann Monson's architects, we held a preliminary meeting with the Dallas County Zoning and Planning Development to ensure that we could build the mosque with a minaret. They informed us that there were no obstacles and that we could build the minaret as planned in the designs. By the end of the year, we successfully completed the design process together with the following teams:

  • Neumann Monson architects
  • Raker Rhodes structural engineers
  • KCL mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineers
  • CEC civil engineers
  • Allender Butzke - rebar, inspection, soil testing, concrete samples
2017

Application for permits submtted; all issued without any questions:

  • Building permit
  • DNR permit
  • Stormwater permit
  • DOT permit
  • Minaret permit

In 2017, we held our groundbreaking ceremony and began initial dirt work, underground piping, and the foundation.

2018
  • Structural steel fabrication for the dome, a traditional metal hemisphere with 40' diameter.
  • Masonry, concrete block walls.
  • Brick was delivered from Pennsylvania and Sioux City by our truck drivers.
2019

The dome exterior was completed in 2019 and the signature moon crescent & star centerpiece was installed.

  • Roof Completion
  • Glazing/glass installation
  • Storefront and curtain walls
  • Rough-in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)
2020

In 2020, we began building the Minaret, a signature component of traditional mosques. This build was completed by Safet Taboković, a master craftsman, trained in building minarets using the traditional Bosnian/Turkish method. He constructed the minaret largely on his own by fabricating intricate metal molds that shaped the concrete casting.

2025

In 2025, we completed the construction of the picnic shelters and finalized the remaining interior work throughout the mosque. This included finishing the last sections of tile work, completing final painting, installing appliances, and addressing various remaining interior details. Thanks to the generosity and continued support of our donors, the entire wakuf area was also asphalted, improving access and usability of the property. During this time, a custom mihrab was installed and carefully painted, adding a beautiful focal point to the prayer space. Additional decorative elements were completed, and the final preparations for the historic grand opening of Mosque Es-Selam began.

Mosque Es-Selam Grand Opening

The historic grand opening of Mosque Es-Selam took place on September 27, 2025, welcoming an estimated 8,000–10,000 attendees from across the region. The event marked the culmination of an eight-year journey by the Islamic and Cultural Center “Bošnjak” community to build a lasting home for worship, education, and community life. We extend our sincere gratitude to the many volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to make this historic day possible, as well as to the local police, fire, and EMS departments for their support in ensuring a safe and well-organized event. We are also grateful to our neighbors and the broader community for their patience, cooperation, and warm welcome.
